SSC JE 2026 Exam Pattern
The Computer Based Examination will be conducted in two papers. Both papers consist of objective type, multiple-choice questions in Hindi and English only.

- Paper-I is qualifying in nature. Candidates are shortlisted for Paper-II category-wise, based on their normalized marks in Paper-I.
- Negative marking is 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I and 1 mark for each wrong answer in Paper-II.
- Only the normalized score of Paper-II is used to prepare the final merit list.
- Minimum qualifying marks in both papers are 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS, and 20% for all other categories.

Educational Qualification
The qualification differs by post and department. In general, a Diploma or Degree in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is required for the JE posts. JE (Telecom) in DoT requires a Bachelor's Degree in the relevant engineering branch, while Scientific Assistant in IMD requires a Bachelor's Degree in Science with Physics or a relevant Computer Science/Electronics degree. Some posts (such as BRO and MES) also require two years of work experience for Diploma holders. Candidates should check the detailed post-wise table in the official notice.

Important Instructions for Candidates
- The dates given in the notice are proposed dates. Candidates should keep checking the official SSC website regularly for further updates.
- The exact exam city, date and shift will be shown on the city intimation slip, and the admit certificate will be issued before the exam.
- The subject opted for in the online application form (Part A to Part G) cannot be changed under any circumstances.
- Candidates eligible for more than one post must appear in the respective paper opted for in the application form.
- Tables such as IS 456:2000 and the Steam Table, where required, will be available on the candidate's console during the exam.
- Candidates applying for JE posts in the Border Roads Organization (BRO) should check the physical and medical standards given in Annexure-XVI of the notice.
