RRB ALP Vacancy 2026 Trends
The RRB ALP Vacancy Trend over the years reflects the changing requirements of Indian Railways. In 2014, the Railway Recruitment Board announced around 26,000 Assistant Loco Pilot vacancies, which further increased to 27,795 posts in 2018, marking one of the largest ALP recruitments in railway history. However, the vacancies dropped significantly to 18,799 in 2024 and further declined to 9,970 in 2025. In the latest RRB ALP 2026 notification, the total vacancies increased again to 11,127 posts.
New Changes for RRB ALP Recruitment CEN 01/2026
As per the new notification, there are few new changes in the RRB ALP Selection Process as given below:
- In RRB ALP 2025, the final merit was prepared using 70% weightage from CBT-2 Part-A and 30% from CBAT.
- In RRB ALP 2026, the weightage was changed to 50% CBT-2 Part-A and 50% CBAT.
- CBAT has become equally important as CBT-2 Part-A in the 2026 recruitment cycle.
- CBT-1 remained a screening test only in both 2025 and 2026 notifications.
- CBT-2 Part B continued as a qualifying test only and its marks are not added to merit.
- The candidates should get marks equal to or more than 35% in CBT 2 –Part B.
- Candidates who qualify CBAT will be considered for final selection.
- The tie-breaking rule remained the same, where older candidates are given higher merit.
Changes in RRB ALP Syllabus and Exam Pattern
- The RRB ALP Syllabus 2026 has been updated under CEN 01/2026. The major change is in the CBT 1 syllabus. General Awareness has been removed from CBT-1.
- In the modified RRB ALP CBT 1 syllabus 2026, there are only three topics including Mathematics, Mental Ability, and General Science.
- Earlier syllabus consisted of General Awareness, Mathematics, Mental Ability, and General Science.
- Now candidates need to prepare for Mathematics, Mental Ability, and General Science for CBT-1.

RRB ALP Medical Standards 2026
Candidates applying for the post of Assistant Loco Pilot have to meet the A-1 medical standard as prescribed by Indian Railways. After Document Verification, Medical fitness test is conducted and it is compulsory for final appointment. ALPs are directly responsible for the train operations and safety of passengers. Hence Railway Recruitment Board has strict eyesight and physical fitness standards.

RRB ALP 2026 Exam Pattern
The RRB ALP Exam Pattern includes 2 Computer Based Tests conducted for shortlisting candidates for Assistant Loco Pilot posts.
